The common factor in every newspaper is the news story of a rape victim or a suicide story. Looking at both these cases, you will find connectivity, asking yourself the question why?

Every girl is being guarded either by her family, boyfriend or the servant. Even if she goes out for a walk, it is important that she is escorted by someone. Is woman so weak? OR Are the criminals so strong?

Leave out the villages talking about security in the metros, do women here feel safe? The answer to this question is No. They Don’t. So how can the women and girls in the villages be happy about their security?

Talking about suicides, a report states that- although suicide rates around the world are about 3 times higher for men than women, evidence states that, in developing countries in Asia, it’s almost vice-versa.

If this is the case then it’s no longer that there would be no girls for marriage and the guys would just wait longing for the day to come. Celebrity suicides are not far away, taking the case of television actress Kuljeet Randhawa, who allegedly committed suicide around 3 yrs back. The cause for this as stated in her suicide note claimed to be life pressures.

Suicide could be because of lack of education, surrounding issue of arranged marriages, failure in love relationships, dowries etc. The solution to this is not a step to be taken only by the victim but family support is very necessary. Education is an important factor that can minimize such cases .Therefore it is now in the hands of society to either stand against this crime or sit down and let it happen…
